DHL, a leading supermarket and another retailer are all considering trials of a new drowsiness detector developed by Fujitsu which will help to alert drivers when they are in danger of falling asleep, according to reports this weekend.
The detectors, which are already worn by long distance bus drivers in Japan, detect when a driver’s heart rate and blood flow slow and send vibrations as an alert.
According to reports in the Sunday Times yesterday DHL will test the technology later this month and could then introduce it to many of its 9,000 UK drivers whilst the retailers are also considering trials. The technology could also be sold to private motorists in the future.
