Online marketplace Notonthehighstreet.com has today launched group gifting for what it says is the first time in the UK.
The new social commerce tool, demonstrated here, allows friends and family to contribute to gifts. Consumers organise their group present by choosing a product from the notonthehighstreet.com website and inviting their friends and family to contribute their share through PayPal. This harnesses group buying power and potentially brings higher value gifts within reach. It is initially being launched in Beta.
Last year eBay announced a Beta version of a group gifting model from its US website, but this is believed to be the first time it has been used by a UK site.
Sophie Cornish, co-founder of notonthehighstreet.com (pictured, right), said: “We are constantly striving to find new ways to make our customers’ shopping experience a pleasure. With this innovative technology we are pushing the boundaries of how gifts can be given together to enable our customers to shop as and how they wish.”
The new technology comes from The Gifts Project, whose chief executive Ron Gura said: “This strong brand is truly passionate about gifting and well positioned to lead a social shopping revolution in the UK.”
Notonthehighstreet.com is also launching its range of gift vouchers at the same time.
