House of Fraser appoints logistics partner

Department store House of Fraser has hired a partner to manage its multichannel fulfilment.

Norbert Dentressangle, which won the contract through a six-way competitive tender, will be responsible for managing the chain’s 510,000 sq ft efulfilment site in Milton Keynes, which employs more than 200 people. There, responsibilities range from taking in goods from House of Fraser’s national distribution centre to managing transfers between its 62 stores, picking orders, packing, despatch and returns management, as well as its wedding list service.

The operation currently involves handling more than 140,000 lines, and the millions of items ordered each year – and House of Fraser, which now turns over £1.3bn a year, has plans to grow the business. Recent multichannel innovations include, (pictured), the launch of new House of Fraser.com stores in Aberdeen and Liverpool that act purely as order and collection points for goods.

Norbert Dentressangle has more than 12,800 employees working across 195 sites and says it was chosen for its ability to support the department store as it grows its multichannel business, and for its proposals to improve both processes and culture in the warehouse.

Mark Holland, House of Fraser’s supply chain director, said: “I am very excited at the prospect of working with the team at Norbert Dentressangle to ensure that we have the platform to support the exciting growth plans House of Fraser has for its multichannel offer.

“Norbert came through a very exacting process and are here on merit."
