Online milk delivery service gathers pace

Milk producer Dairy Crest says its 21st century update on the traditional doorstep delivery now has more than 300,000 registered customers.

Its milk&more scheme has seen fast growth since it was introduced last year, allowing online shoppers to order a range of groceries and gifts alongside their traditional milk delivery. In June the service had 250,000 customers and this week’s figures show that has now topped 300,000.

Now Dairy Crest says it’s making some improvements to the service before continuing its drive to recruit new customers and increase the spend of those it serves already.

Those improvements will include developing its customer behavioural analysis and promotional capabilities.

The update came in a Dairy Crest briefing to analysts this week, as the company released a trading update for the six months to the end of September.

In it chief executive Mark Allen said trading in the first half of the year had been in line with expectations and ahead of the same period last year.

The statement went on: “[We] are becoming increasing confident that milk&more can address the long-term sales decline in our doorstep delivery business.”
