In his new position, he will be responsible for all of the omnichannel retailers‘ 457 stores and will lead the retail operations and field teams as the business continues to develop its estate across the UK.

He will report to chief operating officer Lisa Miao, with the appointment completing the senior retail leadership team.

Commenting on his appointment, Shirley said he is “very excited to be joining Pets”.

Miao added: “It is great to welcome Steve to the team. He is a very experienced, results-driven and respected retailer and has developed a wealth of experience across end-to-end retail operations, including establishing a broad range of store formats.”

This follows the company’s recent relaunch of its brand, which included a new identity and advertising campaign that combined all the elements of the business and celebrates the nation’s love of pets.
