With festive delivery slots taken up weeks in advance, Uber Eats will work Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and Co-op to offer on-demand deliveries throughout the holiday period as it reveals the most popular products for last-minute orders.
Harnessing data from Christmas Eve 2023, Uber has reported that sprouts, Christmas crackers, parsnips, turkey and Pigs in Blankets were the most searched for last-minute items.
Despite being fifth, Pigs in Blankets were the number one most searched item throughout the holidays in 2023, highlighting they aren’t just for Christmas Dinner but a festive party favourite too.
The most popular gifting item on Uber Eats last year was the advent calendar, with Cadbury’s getting the most orders, followed by Malteasers and Lindt.
Prosecco is the UK’s top choice for bubbly with peak orders throughout December on Saturdays at 8pm. Orders of the Italian sparkling wine are two times higher on New Year’s Eve.
Alex Troughton, director of grocery and retail at Uber Eats, said: “We see a huge surge in demand as people prepare for their festive celebrations. With Uber Eat’s best-in-class technology and consumer product, customers can easily find gifts, Christmas essentials, and party supplies from some of the UK’s most trusted grocery and retail partners.”
Iceland will open select stores for delivery-only orders on Boxing Day, ensuring households can restock essentials and festive treats via the Uber Eats app.
Uber Eats not only partners with supermarkets and convenience retailers, it will continue to work with healthcare and beauty giant Boots over the Christmas period. This collaboration will offers access to over 2,500 Christmas gifts with discounts of up to 50%—all available for rapid delivery.
