Retailers launch sales to counteract the warm weather effect

Online sales are everywhere at the moment, as we report in today’s InternetRetailing newsletter. They seem to be prompted by the continuing warm weather. Next said in a trading statement today that the recent sunshine is putting people off shopping, with implications for retail sales – and profits. Perhaps the retailers will be cheered, then, by the rainy weather forecast for next week. Every cloud, so they say, has a silver lining. AO World, meanwhile, has high hopes for its latest venture, as it gets set to push the button on tomorrow. We interview Mike Durbridge of B&Q in today’s preview of IRC 2014

Our next big event is the Internet Retailing Conference, to be held on October 14 at the Novotel, Hammersmith, London. Keynote speakers confirmed so far include Mark Lewis, online director, John Lewis, Andy Harding, executive director, multichannel at House of Fraser, and Jérôme Cochet, senior vice president sales at Zalando. The conference takes the theme of Re-foundation, and will be keynoted by retailers who have led transformation within their business as their product sector or the retail landscape have evolved.
