Returns to peak today as unwanted gifts are sent back

Returns are to hit their highest point today – Tuesday 3 January – with returns of online purchases set to jump by more than 50%, according to the Royal Mail. The figure is against the average number of returns parcels posted per day in December and is based on the number of return parcels handled by Royal Mail through its Tracked Returns service.
January last year saw the highest number of returns in the entire of 2016 with clothing and footwear most likely to be returned this year. Indeed KPMG claims that four in ten clothing items will be returned post Christmas.

ZigZag Global meanwhile is predicting that the post New Year aftermath returns process will be bigger than ever especially as customers also return goods purchased on extended returns policies during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Ensuring an efficient, well-managed reverse logistics process will be more important than ever today and over the next few weeks.
