Royal Mail is spending £130m equipping staff with mobile computing devices, in an attempt to become more competitive.
Starting next year, and taking five years to complete, the project is intended to improve tracking and introduce new delivery methods, the company said.
The next-generation devices, still to be identified in partnership with supplier BT, will start to be rolled out to postal workers in 2015, with the aim of enabling more flexible delivery for customers and improving management information and tracking.
