Royal Mail is expanding its parcel locker network with a new partnership with Motor Fuel Group that will see lockers opened at more than 500 petrol stations across the UK. The first parcel lockers are already open at Motor Fuel Group forecourts in Shepton Mallet and Canterbury.

The deal with the UK’s largest independent forecourt operator will help Royal Mail to continue to expand its parcel locker network, which launched in December. Although the Royal Mail lockers currently only offer a parcel drop-off service they will also soon include collection options, according to the company.

The smart lockers feature label printing and consumers simply request a QR code if they are returning a purchase.

A growing network

Royal Mail now has more than 23,500 locations where customers can drop off and collect parcels, including 1,900 parcel lockers, 7,800 Collect+ stores, 11,500 Post Office branches, 1,200 Royal Mail Customer Service Points and 1,200 parcel postboxes. Customers can also drop off parcels small enough to fit in a postbox and use the app to request proof of postage.

This summer will see the rollout of 100 Royal Mail parcel lockers at Co-op stores after a deal announced last month.

Anna Malley, director of partnerships and acquisitions at Royal Mail, says: “Our partnership with Motor Fuel Group will make Royal Mail’s network even more accessible for our customers. We are working hard to give customers as many options as possible for sending, returning and collecting parcels, on top of delivering and collecting from every address in the UK.”
