Classic English shoemaker Loake has launched a new transactional website that emphasises its 130-year tradition of handmade excellence alongside 21st century social media interaction.

Since the new site, designed and developed by ecommerce agency Screen Pages on Magento, was launched in April, sales conversions have doubled.

Features of the site include choices filtered by attributes such as sole, type of leather and fitting, reviews and ratings, Facebook and Twitter links as well as a lifestyle blog. The Magento site also integrates with Prima Solution back office for stock availability and order processing.

Loake, founded in 1880, is now in its fifth generation as a maker of traditional English shoes. During that time it has made more than 50m pairs of Goodyear welted shoes and now exports to more than 50 countries.

“We are very pleased with our news transactional website,” said Andrew Loake, Loake’s managing director.

Roger Willcocks, director of Screen Pages, said: “Loake has been a maker of quality classic English shoes for more than 100 years and we are privileged to be working with the company as it develops its fast-growing online sales channel.”
