Selfridges is launching a Click&Collect service this week, with what it says is one of the earliest collection times on offer in the UK.
The launch comes ahead of a planned global expansion of Selfridges‘ ecommerce business later this year.
The department store will offer the Click&Collect service from May 9, when shoppers will be able to buy online until 4pm to collect from one of its four stores, located in Manchester, London, and Birmingham, at opening time. Opening hours vary from day to day and from store to store, but the earliest opening time is 9am – at the Birmingham Bull Ring and Manchester Exchange Square stores on a Saturday. That, says Selfridges, is earlier than any other department store or retail chain.
Customers who want to collect later in the day or the week will also be able to specify when within the following seven days they would like to pick up their order. At the dedicated in-store collection points, customers can also test out or try on their ordered goods before buying or continue shopping from an iPad at the collection point.
The store on London’s Oxford Street will also offer 30 minutes free parking for those driving to collect items.
“Selfridges’ Click&Collect is the brand’s considered response to the growing demand from customers to be offered greater shopping flexibility, mixing the convenience of online shopping and the practicality of collecting ordered goods at a time and place to fit their busy schedules,” said a spokesperson.
The development, says Selfridges, is one of two major expansions to its ecommerce business scheduled for this year. Later in the year the company says it will go global, when it launches international sales from its website.
