Zalando has opened a new physical outlet to sell discounted merchandise.

The Hannover store will offer around 15000 products from 500 brands for discounts of up to 70%.

The range, which was previously available online, includes items assembled from the previous season or with minor defects.

The location aims to offer a modern design, with wide aisles, free wi-fi and lounge areas.

The site is the eighth outlet in Germany, with five more planned.

Dorothee Schönfeld, MD of Zalando Outlets, said: “Our goal with Zalando Outlets is that everyone can buy fashionable and high-quality articles without breaking the bank.

“We are convinced that with our outlet concept we will provide a new experience for people in Hannover.”

This week also saw Zalando announce it will be using robots to process real customer orders at Zalando’s Lahr fulfilment centre after extensive testing.

The fast fashion giant will introduce eight TORU units from Munich robotics company Magazino, a specialised robot which can pick up individual products rather than just whole pallets.

Zalando has been testing the TORUs in its Erfurt logistics centre since October 2018. Previously the robots had operated in a designated area so as not to disrupt operations but will now operate in the same environment as distribution centre employees.
