Spanish supermarket taps Amazon Prime for two-hour delivery service

Spanish supermarket DIA has partnered with Amazon Prime to offer two-hour grocery delivery in Seville.
The fast home delivery service will allow customers to place orders on primenow.amazon.es or the Prime Now app for a range of products including grocery, beauty, personal hygiene, household and pet items.

The order is then prepared in a local store before being shipped by an Amazon delivery driver within two hours. Customers get free delivery on orders over €40.

Diego Sebastián de Erice, director of ecommerce from DIA Spain, said: “At DIA we are committed to the online shopping service as a time saver for our clients, a time that they can dedicate to other activities.

“Thanks to our alliance with Amazon, from now on the Sevillian clients of La Plaza de DIA will be able to receive their purchase at home in a two-hour period, thus simplifying their day-to-day life.”

Camille Bur, director of Prime Now for Spain, France and Italy, said: “We are delighted that Prime customers in Seville and the surrounding area can regularly shop with fast delivery and receive it at their doorstep.

“The expansion of DIA’s La Plaza store on Prime Now now allows us to offer a wide selection of products to more Amazon Prime customers.”

The service has previously launched in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

DIA has converted several stores to distribution centres during the Covid-19 pandemic in a bid to support greater online demand. It has also worked with Spanish on-demand app Glovo as an additional distribution channel.
