Tesco picks Venda for fashion site

Tesco has chosen Venda to provide its On Demand ecommerce solution for a fashion website expected to open in the autumn.

The move was trailed in February when Richard Brasher, the retailer's commercial director, revealed that Tesco was looking at how they could bring their fashion ranges to more customers, "whether they live near a large store or not".

And the supermarket giant has big plans, announcing that it intends to become the number one fashion site: "After a rigorous selection process, we chose Venda as our ecommerce partner to support our plans to become the online destination for fashion," says Laura Wade-Gery, chief executive at Tesco.com.

Venda works on the 'software as a service' model, meaning that software is licensed on demand as it is needed. This approach can avoid large upfront investments in hardware and software, instead moving the cost to become an ongoing monthly expense. Wade-Gery explains "Venda has a very broad set of functionality and the scalability and flexibility of their business model will help us to scale our business fast without significant investment in internal infrastructure."

Venda's ecommerce solution is used by retailers including Heals, TK Maxx, Laura Ashley, HMV and Fat Face.
