Big 4 grocer Tesco has come under fire for reducing the value of Clubcard reward vouchers amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
For the second time in five years, the supermarket giant is cutting back the value of vouchers spent with its Reward Partners, it revealed.
Currently, shoppers can use Clubcard vouchers online and in-store to save money on their weekly shop. These vouchers can also be exchanged at 100 retail partners, which include Pizza Express and Zizzi.
However, from 14 June, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth double its value if exchanged at any of Tesco’s reward partners.
Commenting on the move, one Tesco customer said: “Cutting their Clubcard rewards is the final thing to make me move to Aldi. Better to save real money than paying £8 for a glass of wine in a pizza chain and thinking I’m getting a bargain, right??”
Another user added: “Tesco are reducing their Clubcard rewards by 33% so they can ‘keep prices low’. Funny, cos last time I checked, they’d passed on pretty every cost increase to shoppers. They also made £2.6bn profit last year. I guess we’re not all in it together.”
“Absolutely disgraceful from Tesco at a time when people are struggling enough with high prices and costs. More important to think of the profits I guess. Every little helps the shareholders, never worry about the customers,” another user said.
A Tesco spokesperson told InternetRetailing: “We are making a change to how members can use their vouchers with our Reward Partners, but they will still be able to unlock great value in the same range of ways as before.”
Earlier this month, Boots also announced it would be reducing the monetary value of points on its loyalty card by 25%
From May, customers would be earning 3p for every £1 they spend as opposed to 4p.
