Tesco has become the latest retailer to partner with Starship Technologies, successfully delivering a food order to an address in central London in the latest trial.
The initiative was part of the company’s Tesco Now one-hour delivery trial and is likely to see a wider adoption of the delivery robots by the retailer, although the company said it was still reviewing its learnings from the trial.
The robots carry items and deliver within a three-mile radius, delivering either from stores or delivery hubs.
Testing of the Tesco Now app began last month offering 60 minutes deliveries on orders of up to 20 products for a small number of colleagues and customers in London’s zone one and two.
A spokesperson for Tesco said: “We are always looking at new ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers.”
“We carried out a one-off trial as part of our Tesco Now initiative in partnership with a technology company. We learnt a great deal from this trial and we’ll be reviewing feedback before deciding our next steps.”
