Tesco has started recruiting 650 people to staff its latest grocery home delivery centre, which is to open in Erith, north London in October.

The centre is the sixth in a ring of dedicated home delivery centres around London and comes, says the supermarket, as the move towards buying food online accelerates.

Tesco says the October 28 opening will improve home delivery service for thousands of people who shop with it online in the south east London and north west Kent areas.

Simon Belsham, managing director for grocery home shopping dot com at Tesco, said: “More and more of our customers are using their computers, tablets and smartphones to shop for groceries. This new centre will allow us to expand our reach to serve our growing online customer base and offer them the best possible service.”
