The retail response to changing shopper behaviour

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

In today’s newsletter, we’re reporting on analysis that shows how shoppers are continuing to turn online to buy – and how customers expect the sector to develop in the future. As shoppers change the way they buy, it will become ever more important for retailers to change the way they sell – and in today’s newsletter we examine some of those potential responses, whether that means selling online – or adopting virtual reality.

Figures out today show UK retailers responding to this changing behaviour from a position of strength. Research from Ecommerce Europe suggests that transactions across the 48 countries of the European continent will total €500bn this year, with UK retailers taking more than a third of all European sales.

The latest figures from the IMRG/MetaPack on retail deliveries show sales – and the value of sales – in the UK continuing to rise.

Shopper research shows that customers expect to carry on shopping online – and suggests that retailers will need to adapt, both online and on the high street, as they look to retain business.

Today’s guest comment comes from Ross Fraser of EMC UK&I, who suggests some ways that retailers can respond to this changing shopper behaviour, likely to change still further in years to come.

Finally, we cover TLT research that suggests a minority of retailers have planned what they’ll do if the UK votes to leave the EU on June 23.

And we report on the fast growth of Tails.com, promising tailormade pet food, sold online.
