Schuh is to be the first UK retailer to use new technology that enables shoppers to buy instantly from wherever they are in the purchase funnel.

The footwear retailer, ranked Top50 in IRUK Top500 research, is set to introduce Klarna’s Instant Buy button early this year. Instant Buy enables shoppers to buy from wherever they are in the purchase process, turning pages from the product page to the shopping basket into a checkout. Schuh will initially use the functionality on its UK website basket page before adding it to its social pages later in the year.

The introduction comes soon after Schuh extended its use of Klarna’s Pay in 3 service from its UK and German websites to its 110 stores in the run up to Christmas. Using this approach customers can apply for its Pay in 3 payment installment option in-store via their mobile phone, with a real-time decision on finance made in seconds.

Sean McKee, director of ecommerce and customer experience at Schuh, said: “Since 2017, we’ve seen a 40% increase in mobile conversions and a 25% increase on desktop, through Klarna. Those impressive growth figures can’t be ignored, and we knew we wanted to introduce Klarna more widely into our business to replicate that success across Europe. Partnering with Klarna has been part of our wider strategy to deliver a superior omnichannel experience, and the fact we’re already seeing great results shows that this was the right decision for our business.”

Luke Griffiths, UK general manager at Klarna, said: “Schuh has completely embraced what our offer can provide to their in-store presence. We’ve seen first-hand Schuh’s unrelenting focus on providing the best customer experience across channels, which is why we wanted them to be the first to launch our Instant Buy button in the UK, giving customers even more convenience when shopping on screen.”
