Tesco set to welcome the Loop refillable grocery delivery service it supports online into its stores

Tesco will later this year start to sell refillable Loop products from its stores, taking offline a service that it already supports online.

The supermarket has worked with Loop since the refillable service launched in the UK last year.

Loop enables shoppers to order household brands online or through the Loop app for home delivery in refillable containers. When the product has been used, shoppers organise for the empties to be collected, and the packaging – made of materials including stainless steel, aluminium, glass and BPA-free plastics – is cleaned and reused. Brands that have sold through Loop so far include Heinz, Coca Cola, Persil, Nivea and Danone.

Loop also operates in France in partnership with Carrefour, and in the US in partnership with Kroger and Walgreens. At launch, Loop said that it was reimagining the traditional milk delivery service, with everyday essentials, “available in durable, functional packaging that’s beautiful enough to display”.

Now the service is expected to launch in-store at selected branches of Tesco later this year. The in-store model will see customers able to buy reusable containers pre-filled with branded goods alongside their regular shop. It’s not yet known at which stores Loop groceries will be available.

Tesco, an Elite retailer in RXUK Top500 research, has made the service part of its 4Rs sustainability plan – to remove, reduce, reuse and recycle.
