Younger consumers are interested in turning to subscription delivery services instead of high street shopping, according to a study.
The survey by James and James Fulfilment found 79% of UK consumers aged 25 to 34 believed that subscription box services can offer greater choice and personalisation than shopping at their local high street.
Eighty-three percent believed these services could be more personalised than shopping on the high street, while 55% felt the services could offer better value than high street shopping.
The most popular benefit of online subscription services was saving time, cited by 78%, while convenient delivery was cited by over 60%.
Sixty-eight percent of millennials believed online subscription services could make their lives easier in the next two years, falling to 50% of respondents to the survey overall.
James Hyde, CEO of James and James Fulfilment, said: “It’s another sign that high-street retailers need to adapt quickly, to remain competitive.
“This means catering for both a tech-savvy generation who enjoy ‘the fact I don’t need to leave the house to shop’ and older consumers who are tempted to try more subscription services so other people can do the carrying.’”
The research surveyed 400 people across the UK.
According to research by Royal Mail, the UK subscription box market is set to nearly double in size by 2022, up from £583 million in 2017 to £1 billion. According to the report, more than a quarter (27.4%) of UK consumers are already signed up to such a service.
