Vente-privee.com has moved into the UK’s wine and spirits flash sales market.

The flash sales specialist has sold wine and spirits since 2006, when it sold champagne. In France it now sells wine, champagne, and spirits through three time-limited sales a week, over the course of between three and five days. Wine put on sale over the site are chosen by professional wine tasters. Last year a 10,000sq m warehouse opened in Beaune, France dedicated to wine logistics.

More than 70 wine suppliers and producers sell through the French site, where some 49% of customers for wine are women, compared to 35% on the general online market, and have an average age of 43. Some 29% of wine sales on the site are made through mobile devices.

The launch into the UK market follows a number of test sales which have averaged turnover of £20,000. “These very initial results show great potential for this sector on the UK site,” said a Vente Privee spokesperson. The company now aims to hold at least eight wine sales a month on the site, featuring Italian, French, Spanish and German wines.
