Very.co.uk has launched its first shoppable ad on YouTube.

Viewers of the music video, featuring Rizzle Kicks and DJ Jazzy Jeff in a rerecording of 90s anthem Summertime, alongside dancers wearing clothes from Very.co.uk, can click to buy the products shown in the video.

The video, developed by brand engagement agency Havas SE Cake, plays on the idea that it’s more important to entertain shoppers than advertise directly to them.

Jim Dowling, managing director at Havas SE Cake, said: “We’re all about working with brands like Very.co.uk who believe in the idea that people aren’t fussed about ads – but they go looking for entertainment. Entertainment also drives business, and that’s what makes #Summertime such an exciting idea.

“Working with our partners at Universal Music Group, we have been able to deliver an upbeat modern take on a summer classic. Integrating shoppable technology into our music video allows us to not only provide entertainment, but drive customers to the site in a smart way.”

Kenyatte Nelson, marketing director at Very.co.uk, said: “We’re so excited to work with Rizzle Kicks and the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff to bring Summertime to the UK for 2015. We wanted to bring a classic summer hit bang up-to-date, and in making a fully shoppable, stylish music video to accompany it, we think we did it justice. In remaking this track, we hope to bring back amazing memories of bygone summers and inspire many more for future generations.”
