EDITORIAL How department stores are preparing to reopen their stores post-lockdown, plus Zalando, InPost and more

In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter we look at how retailers are preparing to reopen their shops on June 15. That’s the date when all stores will be allowed to reopen, as long as infection rates are under control. We report on what John Lewis, Debenhams and Harrods have said about how they plan to reopen their stores.

We’re also reporting as InPost strikes a partnership with South West Railways to install its lockers in more railway stations. It says this will provide both a greener and a Covid-secure way to pick up online parcels.

Aside from coronavirus, we’re reporting as Zalando becomes the first retail marketplace to require the brands it works with to measure and declare their own sustainability. We report as Boohoo buys the remaining third of PrettyLittleThing that it didn’t already own, and as report, from our European coverage as Italian brand Diesel moves to an all-in-one multichannel site.

Today’s guest comment comes from David Jeffrey of Barclaycard Payments, who explains how and why retailers might streamline their payments during the Covid-19 pandemic.
