With Evening Standard headlines proclaiming “London’s Tech Industry will add £12bn to capital’s economy” and as the city braces itself for the first Technology Week not to mention the Internet Retailing Awards, the spotlight really will be on ….you! So find your signature style and roll with it. After all, that’s what the dress code stipulates on this year’s awards’ invitation: “Dress to impress but no black tie as we’re looking to see style in your suits and cocktail dresses.” Dress codes, like a lot of rules in life, generally were made to be broken. And why not. This season, think about a key piece to introduce into your existing wardrobes, something you’ll want to wear post awards ceremony.
Cocktail dresses? Thanks to Stella McCartney and a much heralded collection a few seasons back the jumpsuit has become it’s very own genre of cocktail dress. Perfect for weddings, fabulous evening looks and Internet Retailing Awards hosted at the sleek and chic One Mayfair. This sporty piece from Iro is the perfect fashion template. Colour it in with a mix of neutral (J.Crew heels) and metallic accessories (Miss KG clutch) or add a splash of hot brights (Gianvito Rossi courts, Miss Selfridge earrings). On the High Street you will find some gorgeous jumpsuits at Mango and ASOS.
Shopping is quite addictive and I can’t help but notice that some of the guys on our tech team keep walking into the office with fabulous style updates on quite a regular basis. All this ‘how to build an algorithm around an outfit’ is rubbing off. The lines often blur between womenswear and menswear on the catwalk. Don’t worry I’m not suggesting that jumpsuits are the ‘new suits’ for men. None of that. Navy is the new black this season and a number of our most-liked garments in our weekly Style Stats round-up show just that.
Over on Mr Porter have a look at AMI, a brand that gives a sports-luxe flavour to traditional menswear, like this navy tuxedo blazer which you can style up with a navy-on-navy combo or down with a grey print Burberry tee. Use your accessories as a talking point. Tateossian has a fun range of interactive cuff links and these Abacus (a little nod to the pre-pre-coding age) cuff links have counters that move from left to right. A good conversation piece. Upgrade Converse trainers with a pair of leather Lanvin numbers and if you hanker after a bit of ‘jewellery’ these leather hook detail Miansai bracelets from Harvey Nichols are a cool must-have in the male accessorising department.
In recognition of our sartorial celebration, we’re running a competition for attendees of this year’s Internet Retailing Awards. The competition is now closed. Congratulations to our joint winners, Angela Maurer and Jennie Saywell from Tesco, who won £75 of Dressipi vouchers each for their ‘subtle evening shimmer with low-key metallics’. Discover their winning outfits here.
