In today’s Internet Retailing newsletter, we assess what the Carphone Warehouse data breach means for ecommerce and multichannel retailers: what actions should they be taking to protect their own sites from similar events?

It’s ever more important that retailers are protecting their own sites as more and more people shop online. There’s much more ecommerce business now at stake than in previous years, as evidenced by the other stories in today’s newsletter. They paint a picture of continued online growth, both across retail, as measured by today’s KPMG/BRC Online Retail Sales Monitor, or at individual businesses such as, reporting their figures this week, New Look and Game. As companies see more of their business move online, it’s vital that they protect their customers and themselves from the loss of data in such attacks, which can have a pernicious effect on their reputation, their business and, ultimately, the bottom line.

In today’s newsletter we also report on VictoriaPlum.com as it opts for new attribution management technology, while today’s guest comment comes from Sean Blanks of Cartridgesave.co.uk, as he considers five ways to improve ecommerce store performance.
