Wimbledon towels may have been disappearing from centre court – but they are now available to buy online, thanks to the launch of a new website.
Official Wimbledon towel supplier Christy has launched a global website, christy.co.uk, where fans of the striped towel can buy their own – and have it personalised through the addition of monogrammed initials.
The launch comes as reports suggest that up to 4,000 Wimbledon towels a year go missing, stashed away by players who take them as a souvenir. Wimbledon, it’s said, now expects that it will only see back a quarter of the 6,000 towels produced for the tournament each year.
Honey Wilson-Artus, head of ecommerce and marketing at Christy, said: “The site provides us with the platform to really differentiate our brand in the market and to support our plans going forward. The new site demonstrates the strong Christy heritage, which is something we are really proud of, at the same time as being forward-thinking.
“We’re really excited about rolling out the personalisation aspect to the wider collection in the near future and hope that our customers enjoy the new look and feel of our site.”
The website has been launched in partnership with digital marketing agency I-COM. Its functionalities including personalisation and navigation. While personalisation is initially only available on Wimbledon towels, that service will soon be extended to other items in the range.
Ravi Bhalla, technical director at I-COM, said: “Christy’s is a historic brand and plays an important role in our region’s history so we are extremely proud to have played a part in pushing the business into the future with this new site.
“The website is a true reflection; as a frontrunner in its industry and unafraid to push the boundaries in order to bring its luxury products to a modern audience.”
