JD latest to launch in-car delivery for its customers

Chinese ecommerce giant JD has launched an in-car delivery service – the first of its kind in China. The company is partnering with electric vehicle company NIO for the service which allows customers to have their purchases delivered into the boots of their cars.
The service uses connected car technology that automatically locates customers’ cars, then enables JD’s delivery personnel to open the boot using a Personal Digital Assistant, deposit the consumer’s order, and lock the car again.

Only the JD delivery service can gain access and the process can be monitored using in-car cameras.

“JD.com is well-known for its unrivalled delivery speeds and for developing innovations in service that make life more convenient for our consumers,” said Bing Fu, head of planning and development for JD Logistics.

The JD In-Car Delivery Service will come as a standard option in NIO ES8, a new model that the company is releasing in China this year. The ecommerce giant will roll out the service to other connected car models this year.
