Whether you were there for business, knowledge or pleasure (or indeed all three), there was something for everyone at the Spring Retail Festival, says InternetRetailing’s managing editor Amanda Vlietstra.
Some of the brightest and best minds in the retail space got together at the Spring Retail Festival on 14 May 2025 to enjoy a really interesting programme of talks, panels and fireside chats. Held at Convene, 133 Houndsditch in London, this one-day powerhouse event brought together senior retail professionals, innovators, and thought leaders under one roof to explore the industry’s direction and the mix of hurdles and possibilities it’s facing.
What was discussed
Retail media continues to be one of the most interesting growth areas for brands and retailers. One key question posed to the various panels and speakers was how brands and retailers without the huge budgets of major players like Amazon can win in this space – and what came out of this was the importance of thinking strategically and taking a laser-focused approach to targeting and engaging the right customers in the right way. It was fascinating hearing how different retailers and brands are navigating these complexities – but of course, there was far more to the event than just retail media. FMCG and CTV were the two other major subject areas tackled at this year’s Spring Festival, each bringing its own set of pressures and possibilities.
One reason events like this are so important is because, in today’s uncertain economic environment, it’s hugely encouraging to meet with the talented and enthusiastic people who are driving the retail industry forward. Sure, times are tough for a lot of retailers at the moment, but the Spring Festival showed that the combination of tech and talent – and grit and determination – is there to turn things around.
All in all, the Spring Retail Festival provided positive reinforcement that, despite a shifting landscape, innovation and collaboration continue to power retail’s next phase. And, of course, it’s a fabulous networking opportunity – and once the talks were done, everyone gathered with a glass of wine to enjoy just that!
