Amazon has brought its Treasure Truck experience to the UK.
The truck (pictured) will initially pop up in London and Manchester several times a month, with offers on one surprise, limited stock product each day. Shoppers buy the item via the Amazon app and then choose a convenient time and place to pick up the item from the truck as it tours the city.
The truck might feature local, trending or exclusively-made products, while the shopper experience may include celebrity appearances, interactive games and seasonal events.
“We all remember the sense of excitement we felt as children when we heard the jingle of the ice-cream van, and we hope to bring that same feeling with Treasure Truck,” said James Quick, head of Treasure Truck at Amazon.co.uk. “Every product has been cherry picked, from must-have Christmas presents to jaw-dropping offers, ensuring Treasure Truck will turn an ordinary day into something a bit more special. Savvy shoppers should sign up now to be the first in the know.”
Shoppers find out what is on the truck via the Amazon app or by signing up for text notifications.
Amazon, ranked Elite in IRUK Top500 research, launched the concept in its hometown of Seattle in 2016 and now operates it in 24 US cities. There, offers have included the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, GoPro cameras, Wowee Fingerlings and Hatchimals.
In the US the trucks have been the scene for events including a dance party on the day that Skullcandy headphones were the surprise offer of the day, and a flashmob of Harry Potter fans to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
The Treasure Truck experience is expected to extend to more UK cities in due course.
