Amazon to launch 26 new renewable projects

Amazon is launching a range of renewable energy projects as it seeks to hit its 2040 zero-carbon target.
The ecommerce giant will roll out a further 26 wind and solar projects. As well as in Australia, Sweden, the UK and the US, Amazon will launch its first such projects in France, Germany, Italy and South Africa.

The projects will supply energy to Amazon fulfilment centres, corporate offices and cloud computing service Amazon Web Services.

This brings Amazon’s total projects up to 127, generating 6.5GW of energy.

“Amazon is helping fight climate change by moving quickly to power our businesses with renewable energy,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO.

“With a total of 127 solar and wind projects, Amazon is now the biggest corporate buyer of renewable energy ever. We are on a path to running 100% of our business on renewable energy by 2025 — five years ahead of our original target of 2030.

“This is just one of the many steps we’re taking that will help us meet our Climate Pledge. I couldn’t be more proud of all the teams across Amazon that continue to work hard, smart, and fast to get these projects up and running.”

Amazon hopes to use 100% renewable energy by 2025 to power its operations, with net zero carbon in 50% of its shipments by 2030.
