AO launches recruitment drive

AO office

AO has launched a recruitment drive to hire over 250 people to grow its team of customer service specialists.

The electrical retailer is also offering a development pathway, which will see applicants able to carve out a career in customer service, offering a wage of £24,000 and the ability to increase this up to £31,000 within a year.

This comes as the company recently increased its pay for its contact centre agents by 20% in the past year, along with a £400/month performance-based bonus for all colleagues in this team.

“Making customers happy is at the heart of everything we do and as such, we are delighted to be investing heavily in our people – especially the ones who speak to our customers and are exceptional in the moments that matter,” AO head of contact centre transformation Jo Salisbury said.

However, the recruitment drive follows comments made by AO World’s CEO and founder John Roberts warning its 3,000 employees to quit if they are not happy with its new policy of working in the office full time.

As a result, the white goods retailers’ flexible working option has been banned for its employees since the start of the year.

Recently, AO was announced as one of the principal sponsors of Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2023, which takes place at Old Trafford on 11 June.

At the time AO group marketing director Vicky Monk added: “We are proud to be the UK’s most trusted major electrical retailer and this sponsorship represents another fantastic investment for our brand, as well as a chance to support a great cause.”
