Online fashion retailer Asos has begun offering a same day delivery service, in partnership with CitySprint and MetaPack, to customers who live within fifty miles of its warehouse in Hemel Hempstead.

The service uses national same day courier service CitySprint’s infrastructure and MetaPack’s interface and covers the whole of the M25 area plus its outskirts. The service costs a flat £16.95.

CitySprint has a national network of over 30 service centres and says it can now offer the same service to most other online retailers around the UK (the only restriction is if a warehouse is too far from a CitySprint depot).

And, because CitySprint operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Asos customers can choose either an evening delivery on the same day or choose a delivery on a Saturday or a Bank Holiday instead.

“Even though our customers are happy with our delivery options we are determined to constantly evolve, remaining ahead of the market and setting a precedent,” says Hilton Eachus, customer delivery manager at Asos. “We want to offer our customers as much choice as possible while maintaining the simplicity of our checkout process.”

“Over the last six months we have looked at enhancing our delivery options and going that extra mile for our customers,” added Stuart Hill, head of customer logistics at Asos. “Our warehouse in Hemel Hempstead gives us perfect access to London and the M25 region and we wanted to utilise its location to offer a same day delivery service to our customers in the London area. CitySprint was chosen as our partner for this exciting new delivery option as they offered us a competitive price point and convenient cut off times, enabling Asos.com to offer our customers the choice of delivery of their goods on the same day as purchase”.

In its first week, 141 orders were delivered by the same day service, with most being high value orders — the average basket value was £120.
