Would be interior designers can now try out their wackiest ideas of furnishings from furniture company Pixers thanks to Google’s Tango augmented reality technology.

The furniture and ‘space personalization’ company has teamed up with AR and VR company iStaging to develop an app that puts 3D objects in a room on a smartphone overlay, as you can see in the video below.

iStaging’s AR app is one of the selected apps pre-installed in Lenovo’s Phab 2 Pro smartphone, the first commercial device to be powered by Tango. The app offers access to 10,000 products from Pixers and combines the best of interior personalization with a Tango-ready device.

“One of the biggest challenges for those wanting to use AR technology is rendering objects in 3D. It can be time-consuming and expensive. Working with iStaging, we brought to market what is probably the largest collection of 3D/AR interior design objects. We want app users to give their wildest decor visions a try with thousands of our products ready to be visualized on any surface in their homes,” explains Mateusz Mentlewicz, CMO at Pixers.

Unlike other AR furniture or home staging apps, iStaging uses markerless technology and eliminates the need to place a catalog or a piece of paper on the floor to indicate the position of a piece of furniture. The experience is significantly more straightforward and user-friendly. The app also recognizes different surfaces — walls, ceilings, floors — which enables professional designers, DIY enthusiasts, and design aficionados to decorate homes from top to bottom.

This makes iStaging’s app an ideal companion to Pixers’ products, which can be fully personalized and applied on any flat surface at home, the office or any other space, thanks to a flexible self-adhesive material unique to Pixers.

“At iStaging, augmented reality and virtual reality are not buzzwords or something fancy. We create technologies that are useful in real life and make a difference to furniture and real estate businesses,” adds Kevin Basset, iStaging’s Head of Marketing. “By teaming up with Pixers, we hope to enhance the user experience and provide their customers with a tool to make better purchasing decisions.”
