Leading UK online automotive marketplace AutoTrader has put a tiger in its tank and ramped up it network performance to cater for the need for an improved experience on mobile.

The company, which has more than 247 million views per month and a fast changing inventory of around 450,000 vehicles at any one time is increasingly seeing its users hitting it from mobile – with smartphones and tablets now accounting for the majority of its traffic.

To deliver high-quality website experiences with this volume of constantly changing information to customers who want a fast and efficient service and need to not only read text but see around 100 high resolution images per car AutoTrader UK needed a content delivery network (CDN) that was fast, secure, scalable and supports consistent and engaging customer experiences.

Enter Limelight Networks. “We wanted a content delivery partner with innovative features, competitive pricing, and great support,” says Russell Warman, Head of Infrastructure at AutoTrader. “We get all of that with Limelight. They treat us as a valued customer, and they’ve helped us enhance our website’s responsiveness and our brand.”

“Limelight’s network allows AutoTrader UK to bypass the public Internet so that customers get the fast load times they expect every time on all connected devices,” adds Jonathan Smith, Group Vice-President and Managing Director at Limelight Networks. “We’ve increased their cache-hit rate to an industry-leading 97% to help them deliver the best possible customer experiences.”
