Best Buy Europe’s UK ecommerce site has put in a “strong performance” since it was launched before Christmas, its joint owner Carphone Warehouse Group said today.

It is now set to expand the range it sells online over the coming year.

Carphone Warehouse, issuing a third quarter interim management statement, said Best Buy’s UK ecommerce store had done particularly well in home appliances. Many customers visited the interactive site as part of their research before buying.

Best Buy, the US consumer electronics chain, has now opened six new stores in the UK as well as the online shop since last summer. Carphone Warehouse Group said today that their performance “has reaffirmed our belief in the substantial opportunity that exists within the consumer electronics market for our innovative, deep service-based proposition.”

Roger Taylor, chief executive of the Carphone Warehouse Group, said: “The online launch at Best Buy UK has gone well, adding to the strong customer satisfaction with our Big Box stores where our planned roll-out continues.”

Best Buy Europe is a joint venture between Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy Co Inc, of the US. As well as Best Buy UK it also includes Carphone Warehouse Europe, and a profit sharing agreement in Best Buy Mobile US.

Today the company said it expected earnings per share for the year to be at the top end of its previously-stated 13.5p-14p range, with Carphone Warehouse Europe seeing quarter three like-for-like revenue growing by 0.7%. In the UK, like-for-like sales are expected to rise by 2.3%.
