Netherlands marketplace has launched an online store selling only sustainable items.

Available at, the new page features 6500 items with independent sustainability labels which have been validated by Dutch information organisation Milieu Centraal.

The site aims to make the sustainable credentials of products easily visible online in the same way they are in physical stores. To facilitate this, has worked with unspecified partners in order to create a digital database where sustainable labels and characteristics can be linked to products and automatically displayed on websites. will expand the range in the future, including collaborations with suppliers and sales partners.

It aims to offer climate-neutral shipping by 2025, including in the fulfilment centre and up to delivery at the customer’s door.

Huub Vermeulen, general manager, said: “The holidays are coming and we are preparing for the busiest months of the year. Together with our colleagues, suppliers and sales partners, we have ensured that the largest responsible assortment is brought together at well before the holiday season. With a special online store we make it easier for our customers to be able to choose from a more sustainable option when looking for a gift.

“We realise that 6,500 articles are a modest first step compared to our total assortment. We hope to be able to expand the responsible range with tens of thousands of items in the coming years. In 2022, wants to offer a sustainable alternative in every category where possible, from children’s clothing to personal care items.”

Kirsten Palland of Milieu Centraal explains: “We think it is a very positive development that a player such as is dedicated to making more sustainably produced articles more accessible. Not every consumer is familiar with this offer or is aware that there are also sustainable alternatives.

“By launching the special store, it becomes clear whether an item has been produced with respect for people, animals and/or the environment. Environment Central can then help people to use the article in an environmentally conscious way.”

The news comes the same day Zalando outlined its new sustainability strategy.
