Carrefour focuses on core business with Rue du Commerce sale

Carrefour is planning to sell its online electronics site to a pure-play ecommerce company.

The grocery giant is selling Rue du Commerce to Shopinvest, which currently operates 11 websites, including 3 SUISSES.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The move to offload a non-food arm reaffirms Carrefour’s claim last year when launching its transformation plan. The grocer said its growth would be fuelled by “leadership in the food sector” and the development of a competitive omnichannel offering.

The transformation plan aims to generate €2 billion per year in cost savings by 2020.

Carrefour aims to net €5 billion in food ecommerce sales by 2022 after the category hit €1.2 billion in 2018, up over 30%.
