Five ways Amazon is making it easier for customers to buy on Prime Day

One of the biggest days of Amazon’s year is fast approaching. The UK’s largest online retailer, ranked Elite in IRUK Top500 research, is gearing up for its own Prime Day deals event, which this year is extended to two days, starting at 00.01am on July 15. This is effectively Amazon’s homegrown peak trading day – and peak trading can often provide useful pointers as to how the the way consumers want to buy is changing.

 

In past Amazon Prime events, Amazon has focused on how quickly the retailer can deliver. But with a vast, and growing, range of products on offer, Amazon is this year drawing attention to the different ways that it is making it easier for shoppers to find and buy products. These point to trends that may well provide inspiration for other retailers.

 

Extend membership schemes to businesses

Amazon has launched a new Business Prime service in the run-up to this year’s Prime Day event. This will give businesses that sign up the same access to convenient delivery that individual members enjoy – and the same access to deals on products during Prime Day. It also promises to enable businesses to track spending and to enable compliance with purchases policies through guided buying.

 

Offer exclusive products

Amazon has worked with brands to have new products available to pre-order on Prime Day, along with new collections that will be available to Prime customers first, for a limited time.

 

Make it easy to search deals

Amazon is promising more than a million deals, worldwide, through the course of Prime Day. Customers who want to find the one that’s right for them can watch deals via the Amazon app, and find deals by most-shopped-for interests. They can also add items they want to buy to their wish list and be notified if any of their choices qualifies as a deal.

 

Enable voice shopping

Customers that have Amazon’s Alexa voice shopping assistant can search for deals by asking Alexa, “Alexa, what are my Prime Day deals?” Those using the voice assistant are promised early access to some deals.

 

Make it an event

Amazon is using star power to attract attention to its Prime Day event. Singer Rita Ora is to headline the Prime Day Party in London on July 10, while a global party will be headlined by Taylor Swift and streamed live in more than 200 countries, starting at 2am in the UK on July 11. Amazon Twitch is also hosting a Prime Crown Cup Tournament in London on July 13, featuring sports names including athlete Sir Mo Farah, footballer Thierry Henry, and street skateboarder Leticia Bufoni playing games online.
