Londoners turned online during this week's tube strike to shop whether they were stuck at home or shopping from mobile devices along the way, according to fashion shopping site Lyst
The company analysed data from visitors to its website, which brings together in one place a fashion products from retailers and designers. It found an unusual rise in traffic, starting at 6am yesterday morning. Visits from the London area were up by 116% between then and midday, compared to the average Thursday morning average.
Visits from mobile devices in the London area accounted for 58% of the trafc between 6am-10am, suggesting commuters bought while they waited to get through gridlocked traffic on the bus.
Desktop visits increased steadily throughout the morning as Londoners ‘working from home’ eased into their laid-back schedule for the day.
Shoppers were searching for "last minute summer pick-me-ups". The most-viewed products for Londoners shopping online during the Tube strike yesterday morning were holiday-related, from womens and men’s beachwear and summer dresses to sunglasses and travel accessories. Lace-up gladiator flats, from designer brands Aquazzura and Chloé as well as high street versions by Topshop, were the best-selling products of the morning for Londoners.
