Delivery first for the DIY sector as Wickes launches one-hour delivery slots

DIY retailer Wickes has rolled out the ability for customers to select one-hour delivery slots, following a successful trial in a move that is believed to be a first for the DIY industry.
The retailer is partnering with delivery technology brand On the dot, which is operated by courier fleet firm CitySprint.

Customers can order more from a range of more than 7,000 products through the Wickes Hourly service with orders made either online or via the customer services team. However, it comes at a price with the precise one-hour windows, which are available seven days a week as well as same day, costing £9.95.

“At Wickes we pride ourselves on making our customers’ lives that little bit easier and we’re excited to say we’re the first to market with this new delivery option in our sector,” said Duncan Kendal, supply chain director at Wickes. “By partnering with On the dot we have been able to offer a range of home improvement products exactly where and when people need them.’’

Patrick Gallagher, CEO of On the dot, said Wickes was recognising customers’ demands for delivery that better suits them. “We know that consumers now expect to shop on their terms and it is retailers, like Wickes, who have put convenient delivery at the top of their agenda, that will succeed in retaining and attracting new customers,” he said.

Wickes already operates a next day and one-hour click and collect service.
