DPD has launched a new in-app parcel-sending feature, supplementing its existing 3 million-user Your DPD mobile app to extend customer capabilities when it comes to shipping parcels.
The new ’send a parcel’ function within the app gives consumers the abilityto ship their parcels anywhere in the UK and to more than 20 countries across the world with an easy to use paperless process.
The apps’ shop finder helps to locate the nearest DPD pickup store and the user merely has to show the QR code generated within the app when they drop off the parcel at the chosen store.
The idea to pack Your DPD app with a new feature has been sparked by a step towards a more personalised final-mile user experience.
Consumers can now tailor their DPD experience by choosing from a range of available options. The options include the ability to specify preferred neighbours for deliveries if the app users aren’t home, provide multiple shipping addresses, share a picture of their safe place for deliveries if they wish to avoid deliveries around the school run.
“The app has been hugely popular with consumers as it gives them a number of exclusive benefits. As a result, we get loads of feedback from app users and in-app shipping was something a lot of people have been asking for,” says DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald.
“Consumers told us that they don’t always find sending parcels that straightforward. So, we’ve created a really intuitive and streamlined process, that is ideal for the occasional sender. Plus, they get the peace of mind of knowing they can track their sent parcels and the recipient will get the full DPD Predict service, with all the usual in-flight options.”
McDonald continues: “We’re still surprised by just how popular the app has been. You can’t compare it to a lot of other popular smartphone apps, but in terms of download numbers, it is right up there. The app works so well because it allows us to really personalise the service we can provide users and it pulls together all of our different options, making them work even smarter.”
“The reality is that app users get a better service. Because consumers can control every aspect of their delivery, we have a higher first-time delivery rate for app users. Plus, they now have a great new way to send parcels too!”
