eBay is expanding its UK management as it looks to grow its retail brand business in this country.

The online marketplace today said it had appointed Tanya Lawler , currently director of digital and crosschannel at Sainsbury’s, to the new role of vice president of UK trading. Lawler, whose previous experience includes stints as Argos commercial director and vice president of retail at Capgemini, will have the remit to develop eBay’s customer strategy in order to help grow busimess for eBay’s retail brand and business seller partners. They currently include Superdry, Bench , House of Fraser, LK Bennett and Comet. Lawler will also recruit more high street brands to the marketplace.

Clare Gilmartin, vice president marketplaces UK & Rest of Europe, eBay, said: “eBay is a very different business to the one that launched in the UK over ten years ago. Most items sold on eBay are now sold new and at a fixed price, and the UK is one of eBay’s fastest growing European markets.

“Our strategy is to partner, but never compete, with the UK retail industry. In her new role, Tanya will help us ensure that the business and experience of shopping on eBay continues to evolve to meet the demands of the modern shopper.”

Lawler will join eBay in late autumn, reporting in to Gilmartin, with the buyer, enterprise sales and marketing functions reporting in to her.
