As part of eBay’s 20th birthday celebrations, the platform has released eBay 4.0, a new app for iOS and Android that creates an easier, more personalised way to shop and sell, and enables eBay’s community to discover things that inspire them, anytime, anywhere.

The new app is synchronized over iOS and Android to enable a unified shopping experience across channels. In addition, the interface includes three accessible at-a-click channels:

  • Activity – lets users review items they are buying or selling in one location. While also allowing users to create a ‘watch list’ in which to keep an eye on products and those the user follows.

  • Shop – brings new life to eBay’s vibrant selection. The new design aesthetic makes it easier to browse, access items and shop, says eBay.

  • Sell – the new app provides price recommendations, photo editing tools and product description feature processes to make selling easier.

Consumers are increasingly shopping more via mobile devices. 59% of purchases made on eBay are touched by mobile.

The ecommerce pioneer has been changing the way people buy and sell for two decades and continues to reinvent the shopping experience. Innovations in mobile are a focus point of that strategy.

Devin Wenig, eBay Chief Executive Officer explains: “Our new mobile app reflects our commitment to creating great experiences for our buyers and enabling continued success for our sellers. Looking ahead to the next 20 years, our vision is for the world to shop on eBay first because we offer the best choice and most relevance, powered by the simplest and most profitable selling platform.”

Whether people are searching or selling; browsing, bidding or choosing to “Buy It Now” (79% of items available are fixed price), eBay continues to innovate across screens of all sizes. From introducing one of the first apps for iPhone in 2008 to reaching 279 million app downloads globally, eBay has a history of mobile leadership. eBay 4.0 for iPhone, iPad and Android is a key step in delivering a simple, customised experience for buyers and sellers across all devices. The new app is tailored to fill people’s inspiration and utility needs, while also bringing selling to the forefront – all supported by platform updates that increase app speed, efficiency and consistency.

RJ Pittman, eBay Chief Product Officer adds: “eBay 4.0 is a significant step forward for the company and underscores our commitment to the mobile commerce world we live in today. Inspired by customer feedback, the new app introduces a more simplified user experience and personalization that learns from your interests. This release represents an exciting new starting point from which we aim to drive big innovation across all devices at once.
