eBay today reported a strong rises in sales and profits as it gained more customers on its marketplaces and through PayPal. Mobile commerce also continued to grow.
Net revenue for the three months to September 30 reached $3.4bn, 15% up on the same time last year, while net income hit $597m, 22% up on last time.
PayPal boosted its registered account numbers, up by 14% compared to last time, while eBay added 10% more active users – its fastest growth since 2007. Some 800,000 new users came from mobile alone, and the company said downloads of its mobile apps had now passed 100m around the world.
eBay’s fastest growth came in the US and Asia Pacific. While US gross merchandise volume, excluding vehicles, grew by 16%, the international figure, which includes the UK website, was up by 8%.

With our strong portfolio and global reach, we are consistently demonstrating our capabilities to help consumers shop anytime, anywhere. And we are enabling retailers of all sizes to compete in a rapidly evolving, multichannel commerce environment.”
