eBay is piloting personalised recommendations for its UK fashion shoppers.

The six-month trial sees personalisation technology from London fashion and technology start-up Dressipi integrated into the eBay Fashion Gallery.

Visitors to the eBay Fashion Gallery will initially be able to see a curated choice of clothes, shoes and accessories from the Dressipi team of personal stylists. Those who choose to complete Dressipi’s Fashion Fingerprint and share information about their size, shape, brand preferences and confidence levels, will then see tailored recommendations about which clothes available on eBay would both suit them and fit them. Upcoming functionality will allow shoppers to give further insights by identifying those items that they like or dislike.

Eben Sermon, director of relationship marketing and loyalty at eBay, said: “eBay is dedicated to delivering innovations that can inspire and personalise the eBay experience to allow shoppers to connect with the items they love in new and engaging ways.

“From the high street brands in our Fashion Gallery, through to the launch of a personalised shopping experience with eBay Feed, we are committed to making eBay a great place to shop and we are excited by this latest pilot.”

Dressipi’s fashion recommendation services are already used or are on trial with a number of major clothing retailers. It was co-founded by Donna Kelly and Sarah McVittie, who was a keynote speaker at the annual Internet Retailing Expo in March.

Commenting on the eBay trial Donna Kelly said: “We founded Dressipi because we believe that personalisation is the future of ecommerce. In an environment where choice is near infinite, the retailers who prosper in the future will be those who use a combination of editorial judgment, customer insight and sophisticated algorithms to help the consumer narrow down the selection of goods to those that they like and will want to buy.

“eBay has been at the forefront of ecommerce for as long as it’s been around and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with them.”
