Domino’s Pizza in the UK and Ireland now “frequently” takes online orders worth more than £1m in total during the course of a single day, the company said today.
In the year to December 25, said Domino’s Pizza UK & IRL in an interim management statement, ecommerce sales accounted for 44.3% of its UK delivered sales. In the 13 weeks to December 25, they climbed by 39.6% to reach £53.1m, up from £38.1m at the same time last year. Online sales for the full year to December 25 were £183.1m, up by 43.0% from last year’s £128.0m.
“Online sales,” said the statement, “now frequently top the £1m mark in a single day. Online sales through mobile devices have also grown rapidly and now account for 12.6% of all online orders.”
The ecommerce figures come against a backdrop in which Domino’s total sales for the 13 week period were up by 9.5% at £145.0m, from £132.5m last time. Meanwhile total sales for the year were 9.4% up at £530.6m, from £485.3m. Like-for-like sales in the company’s 604 mature stores were up by 3.0% over the year, with UK only stores up by 3.7% and Republic of Ireland stores down by 4.1%. In the 13 weeks to December 25, like-for-like sales were up by 3.6% (4% in UK stores and down by 1% in Republic of Ireland stores). Highlights of the year included 62 new store openings, including four in Germany, while two closed in the UK and one in Ireland.
Recently-installed chief executive Lance Batchelor said: “Domino’s is a robust business with strong cash generation and, although the general economy is challenging, we have grown sales and opened a record number of new stores.
“As I take over as chief executive, I come into the new year with confidence and optimism and will continue the growth of the business through our strong tradition of innovation, with new products and new locations.”
