In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter we’re recovering from the night before. Last night Internet Retailing welecomed hundreds of retailers from across the multichannel and ecommerce spectrum, to celebrate the successes of the best in the industry. This morning we report on the winners of the Internet Retailing Awards 2014. We’d contend it’s not just those who were awarded the prized Internet Retailing trophies last night who were the winners. In a year that UK ecommerce is expected to grow to more than £107bn in value, the industry as a whole has plenty to celebrate. We’d like to think we helped mark the achievements of the sector as well as its individual companies last night.

The awards come in a week packed with milestones. Dixons and Carphone Warehouse confirmed they’d won European approval for their merger into Dixons Carphone, as both reported their full-year results. The future for the two will put the focus firmly on connected products as the internet of things develops.

Many innovations in this industry come in the field of logistics: today we report both on Amazon and Morrisons as the former brings its lockers to London Underground stations and the latter launches online deliveries in the capital. And we also report on Fortnum & Mason as it becomes the first retailer to offer Sunday deliveries through Parcelforce Worldwide’s new Sunday service.

We also bring you an interesting report from SDL that suggests a third of the UK’s millennials (aged 16-34) would rather use a language other than English when it comes to ordering online.

Today’s guest comment comes from Jon Banks, director of payments and loyalty at The Logic Group, who considers how the payment standards we use are set to develop, thanks to mobile commerce.
