Scottish fashion brand Lyle and Scott is to launch a social media commerce store enabling customers to shop through Facebook. The application, developed by BT Fresca, follows Lyle and Scott’s recently relaunched mobile-optimised website.

Lyle and Scott has a 130-year history and is known for its quality jackets, polo shirts, skirts and knitwear. Its golden eagle logo is now widely recognised in the UK and beyond. The online store was relaunched in 2010 and the site now serves the UK, France, Germany, Sweden.

Will Dymott, head of ecommerce for Lyle & Scott, said: “We want to enable our customers to shop with us no matter where they are, or what they are doing. Our mobile site was the first step, now we are launching our Facebook store so that customers can shop with us without leaving Facebook. Our social media strategy is set to increase sales and enhance the buying experience.”

Laura Summers, BT Fresca’s online marketing manager said: “Transactional social media platforms represent a huge opportunity for retailers – both in terms of revenue and brand building. Today’s consumers spend more time on Facebook than a retail website, so it is important for retailers to have a consistent brand image across all channels. We are really excited to be working with Lyle and Scott as it looks to integrate its web, mobile and now social media presence.”
